World of Photonics Congress
“Manufacturing of Optical Components”

For the first time in 2009, “Manufacturing Technology for Optics” will not only be one of the most interesting topics at the LASER World of PHOTONICS Exhibition, but also at the World of Photonics Congress.

The European Optical Society (EOS) is organizing a conference on “Manufacturing of Optical Components” within the World of Photonics Congress, offering several sub-conferences being of particular interest for visitors and exhibitors of the LASER World of PHOTONICS Exhibition. The EOS Conference in detail:
  • Precise Optics Fabrication:
    Abrasive processes, single point cutting (diamond turning, fly cutting, micro-milling), energy beam processing (ion beam, laser, abrasive jet, plasma processes) and optical fabrication process chain studies are important topics for this sub-conference. Papers on applied OF&T research, and reports on process lessons learned from experiences in production and testing are also solicited. Chairs: Oliver Fähnle (FISBA Optik AG, CH), Paul Shore (Cranfield University, GB);
  • Micro-optics and structured surface technologies:
    Laser material processing e.g. for electronics manufacturing, flat panel display production and solar cell production benefits from laser beam shaping which is enabled by micro-optics. This sub-conference will cover the latest innovations in laser beam shaping and manufacturing technologies for micro-optics and other micro-textured surfaces. Emerging technologies like variable micro-optics and micro-texturing for PV and display applications will contribute to the interesting spectrum of topics of this conference. Chairs: Lutz Aschke (DE), Andreas Tünnermann (DE).
  • High Volume Manufacturing of Optical Components:
    In order for optics and photonics to enter more and more daily life applications, optical components in high quality, but at low cost, are necessary. Thus, high volume manufacturing of optical components is a must for photonics century to happen. This sub-conference will give the excellent opportunity to discuss topics like injection molding optics and glass molding, being the two leading manufacturing processes for high volume optics, new process optimization and insert making technologies, testing of large series of optics, design for manufacturing and new applications. An additional topic will be cost models: When is an injection molding tool justifiable? What are integral costs of molding and testing? These and other important questions will be clarified at the “High volume manufacturing of optical components” conference. Chairs: Stefan Bäumer (NL), Andreas Fischer (DE).
  • Metrology of Advanced Optics:
    This will be a joint session with Optical Metrology Conference, featuring topics like ?-optics for illumination systems and laser beam shaping, measurement of aspheric and freeform optical surfaces, measurement of micro-structured surfaces for optical element fabrication and in-process/in-machine measurement for improved optical production.
General Chairs of “Manufacturing of Optical Components” are Klaus-Friedrich Beckstette (DE) and Paul Shore (GB).

Renowned invited experts and international lecturers will present their latest research results within optical component manufacturing and will bridge theory and praxis. Attend the EOS Conference as lecturer or visitor, meet your colleagues and peers and discuss the latest research results!

We look forward to welcoming you at this conference! More information on the conference is available on web >>>
