NEWS FROM THE TRADE SHOWS AND CONGRESS
Lasers in Manufacturing LiM 2009
Linking the Worlds of Science and Industry

The voices to be well prepared for the next  economic turnaround can be listened more frequently. Looking at the strong resonance of LiM 2009, the International Conference on Lasers in Manufacturing, one can get the impression that the manufacturing industry is already doing their homework.  In collaboration with scientists in institutes numerous innovations have been developed within the last months. The results of these research and development activities will be presented at LiM 2009 from June 15 - 18, 2009 . The full program and all further information on how to register and take part into LiM 2009 can be found at the conference web page http://www.lat.rub.de/lim2009/index.html.en.

The LiM 2009 Conference Chairs  Andreas Ostendorf (Ruhr-University Bochum), Dirk Petring (Fraunhofer Institute of Laser Technology ILT), Thomas Graf (University of Stuttgart IFSW), and Frank Vollertsen (Bremer Institute of Applied Beam Technology BIAS) are convinced that the event will set important milestones in the future direction of laser material processing. LiM sessions will cover aspects in high power laser materials processing as well as new developments in micro and nanoscale processing. Thus, welding, brazing, cutting, and surface machining using new types of lasers will be presented as well as innovative applications in automotive, aerospace, sheet metal processing, photovoltaics, microelectronics, and biomedical technologies. In this respect the LiM-conference is perfectly and complementary linked to the LASER World of PHOTONICS exhibition (www.world-of-photonics.net/exhibitordatabase).

LiM 2009 will be opened by three keynote presentations. Member of Trumpf Management Mr. Kilian will provide latest developments within the world´s leading laser manufacturer. Prof. Arnold (Princeton University) and Prof. Konov (Director of the General Physics Insitute Moscow) will present exciting new laser processes in the field of nanotechnology and material modifications. More than 10 invited speakers, who are all worldwide leading experts in their fields, will introduce in the specific sessions.
Further highlights of this year´s LiM are the two sessions which are jointly organized together with the European CLEO conference: The Tech Focus “Fiber Lasers and Amplifiers: Concepts to Applications” on Tuesday and the joint session on “Fundamentals and Modeling of Materials Processing with Lasers” to be held on Thursday. Both sessions contain invited presentation from the world´s leading researchers and companies in these specific fields.

In summary, LiM 2009 will be once more crowded with laser processing highlights and, therefore, is a must for all scientists and engineers who use lasers in production or who might use them in future. For details please refer to the web page and take significant advantage of the registration options.
