The Traffic Solutions division of the optoelectronics group will equip
Malaysian streets with traffic safety systems. The contract also
comprises comprehensive on-site services for a period of 5 years.
Jenoptik will deliver and implement equipment and set up a complete
operation for the enforcement system.
Jenoptik will install up to 550 traffic monitoring systems in Malaysia
and will support the operation over a period of five years. The scope
of delivery encompasses stationary and mobile systems for monitoring
red-light and speed violations and further on-site services including
the installation of the equipment and the implementation of a
comprehensive software solution covering the entire process chain. The
project is part of the initiative of the Government of Malaysia to
improve road safety and covers the northern regions and east Malaysia.
As the delivery of the equipment and the implementation of the back
office solution are set to commence this year, first sales and earnings
contributions will already be noted in 2012. The project will run over
the next five years and will thus positively contribute to the sales
and earnings in the medium term.
With a further large order, the Jenoptik Group extends its leading
market position for traffic safety solutions. The so called "Automated
Enforcement System" of the state of Malaysia is globally considered as
one of the largest individual projects of its kind. Jenoptik's
contracting body is the Malaysian company A.T.E.S. Sdn. Bhd. (Automated
Traffic Enforcement Systems), which, in turn, has been commissioned by
the Malaysian Government. The new traffic safety systems are to improve
the driving behaviour of motorists in Malaysia and to dramatically
reduce the number of traffic deaths and serious accidents.
"This order re-establishes our Traffic Solutions division as a leading
systems provider, in particular for large projects outside Europe,"
says Michael Mertin, chairman of JENOPTIK AG. In spring 2011, Jenoptik
had already received a major order for traffic monitoring systems and
equipment from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
